This is a thriller book series, which stories take place in the town of Hollow Green. The detective Edgar Vincent is the main character that investigates several crimes.
In this first book young women are murdered during a snowy winter. One of the victims is found in an isolated colonial old house, which can be seen as a central detail.
The design was thought to catch the curiosity of the viewers and to transmit a sense of mystery and fear, but without revealing too much of the story. The wintery atmosphere with the trees without any leaves, as well as the perspective where the character is only seen in a silhouette, helped to create that dark environment. The effect used on the title also added a final touch to the design.
